Life in Leon

A wonderful confluence of events got five members of the Leones de Leon (Leon Lions) baseball team out to La Isla last week to play a pickup baseball game with kids from the community. The La Isla team brought out some extra baseball gloves, balls, and a bat – thanks to a generous donation and all of which were sorely needed. It was amazing to see the excitement on the kids faces, they haven’t had a bat for a while and have only been able to play catch. So getting to play an actual game, with professional players, was a big deal.

It was a nice change of pace, to do something purely for fun. Not teaching, research, just a simple game of baseball. Of course, it was anything but simple, as there were kids everywhere, no one really had a position on the field, and kids argued over who…
