Of the the over 4 billion people in Asia none of them currently live in a country allowing same sex marriage. However that is soon set to change as Taiwan is currently working on three bills in support of Marriage equality.

Taiwanese show widespread support for the initiative as around 80% of those 20-29 support same sex marriage and over 70% of the entire public approve of the change. Importantly another key supporter of marriage equality is Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen.

Taiwan would add to the only 22 nations worldwide who have legalized same sex marriage and serve as an important exception among Asia and the Middle East of which over 20 countries currently ban same sex intercourse.
